Tara Berg, County Assessor

Welcome to the Fremont County Assessor’s Office.

I am Tara Berg, your Fremont County Assessor.  Being a lifelong resident of Fremont County, my family and I enjoy the benefits of living in Wyoming and as such have a vested interest in Fremont County and its citizens.

I am blessed to be able to live and raise my family in such a wonderful community.  Volunteering as a 4-H leader, serving as the Chairman of the Fremont County Junior Livestock Sale Committee, the Chairman of the CDS Board of Directors and Kiwanis are just some of the ways I have tried to give back to my community.

In 1992, I graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor’s Degree and have enjoyed working for the assessor’s office for the past 25 years.  During this period, I have learned the complexity and challenges that go with valuing approximately 25,000 properties lying within 9,000 square miles.  This includes five incorporated cities and a wide range of agricultural and recreational properties from Dubois to Jeffrey City.

The Wyoming Constitution and an abundance of Wyoming Statutes define my job duties. To serve as your assessor the statutes require that I be a certified property tax appraiser with the Wyoming Department of Revenue.  In order to maintain that status I must complete continuing education courses yearly.  I have been a certified appraiser since 1999 with over 758 hours of appraisal education.

During my 12 years as assessor, I have had the privilege of serving as President of the Wyoming County Assessor’s Association as well as chair of various committees including the Education committee and GIS committee.  I am also a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers.

With the hard work of a competent staff, Fremont County has passed all Department of Revenue and State Board of Equalization Audits, thus ensuring the county property values are in compliance and allowing the yearly valuation to be certified.

I understand that taxation is often confusing to the taxpayer, and I believe in your right to be informed.  My understanding of the statutory requirements of this office and your rights as a property owner may help in relieving many concerns you may have as a taxpayer.

Informing the public how values are derived is my goal and my staff and I are dedicated to serving the public in a friendly and helpful manner.  Our current staff includes 10 employees; 5 are field appraisers, 4 are office appraisers/analysts, and a GIS coordinator.  All appraisers are required to obtain certification as property tax appraisers with the State of Wyoming Department of Revenue with ongoing education after their initial certification.
