Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome

Pandemic Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (sars) is a global outbreak of influenza disease from a new coronavirus that is unlike past viruses. Pandemics are different from seasonal outbreaks. Pandemic outbreaks are caused by new subtypes or by subtypes that have never circulated among people. Past sars pandemics have led to high levels of illness, death, and economic loss.

Fremont County Public Health has worked with the Wyoming Department of Health preparing in Fremont County. Our plan identifies several actions the public may be asked to take to prevent or limit the spread of the disease, such as:

  • Frequent hand washing, and coughing or sneezing into cloth or tissue.
  • Wearing a facemask in public places where maintaining the recommended distance is not always possible.
  • Maintaining a safe distance of six feet from others.
  • Staying home if you are sick and following home treatment methods.
  • Voluntary quarantining of exposed individuals.
  • Cancelling all unnecessary indoor gatherings such as worship services, funeral services, schools, and entertainment events.
