The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office has patrol field offices in Lander, Riverton, Dubois, Hudson and Jeffery City. The Patrol Deputies are assigned to area’s in which they reside, but often cover and work anywhere in Fremont County when needed. The county takes in 10,000 square miles and can be a handful to cover at times. The Sheriff’s Office employees 30 sworn deputy sheriffs with three of those employees being Detective Sergeants, two are Captains and one Sheriff.
The patrol deputies duties consist of more than just patrolling the roads of Fremont County. They answer a variety of calls for service that may be as simple as a car in the ditch or as serious as a shooting or homicide. They also handle the odd calls of “bears trying to get into homes”, “Mountain Lions on porches” and “Rattlesnakes in yards”. They handle traffic accidents, dog bites, family fights, weapon offenses, livestock issues,
Drunk drivers, fights, traffic offenses, juvenile problems and a lot of other calls for service. They also are responsible for criminal and civil process service that includes serving warrants and arresting people on these warrants. They take the time to attend public functions in order to better relations with the public. They attend local school events to show officer presence that in turn keeps trouble-makers in check. They are there for all of the other law enforcement and emergency services people in Fremont County and routinely assist ambulance crews with medical issues and fire departments with traffic control. They are always there to assist the local police and Wyoming Highway patrol along with F.B.I and the Wind River Police Department. Being a patrol deputy is more than a lot of people realize.
