| The Fremont County Communications
Center is responsible for taking all of the Sheriff Office calls in
Fremont County, Lander Police calls, Shoshoni Police calls, all
ambulance and fire calls for the county and 911 calls for Fremont
County. They assign "Calls for Service" to officers as well as
ambulances and fire departments in the county. This is a great job for
those that can handle several conversations at the same time and handle
the fast and exciting pace of Communications.
They receive and assigning a wide variety of calls
including family disputes, auto accidents, search and rescues, traffic
complaints, drunk drivers, civil disputes and many others. They are in
constant communications with law enforcement and emergency services
personnel throughout the county, including Lander, Riverton Dubois,
Jeffery City, Pavillion, Kinnear, Hudson, Shoshoni, Lysite, Arapahoe,
Fort Washakie and all of the rural area’s in the county. They work
daily with the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Game and Fish, Wind River Police
Department, Division of Criminal Investigation, F.B.I., Lander, Riverton
and Shoshoni Police Departments, Wyoming Brand Inspectors, Fremont
County Roads Departments, Fremont County Attorney’s Office and many
others.
Communications can be very hectic as Murphy’s
Law is constantly in effect. It seems that when there is a call for an
ambulance, it comes via three or four calls for an ambulance at the same
time. While they are paging out ambulance’s , there always seems to be
a fire or two and a crash or two at the same time. These calls are
compounded by thousands of phone calls a day in the communication center
that can be simple calls for information to reports of family disputes
or drunk drivers. It takes a special KIND (emphasis on the KIND) of
person to work in Communications as it the busiest place in the
department. |
